This is actually a very important point. When the desire to quit a bad habit is strong enough, one can go to any lengths to avoid it.
I've also been following this without knowing the science behind it. For example, I always craved for sweets or chocolates after lunch. But I also wanted to give up on sugar, so I swapped the chocolates with a mango in the summer and an orange in the winter. I don't know if the calories are less or if it helps me lose weight, but at least, I don't feel guilty for eating unhealthy.
