I would recommend Mistborn for the simple reason that the series is complete. Skyward is still ongoing and only two books are out in the series (unless you don't mind waiting).

Otherwise, both series are amazing. Skyward is more of science fiction/fantasy, whereas Mistborn is purely fantasy, especially Era 1.
