My answer to this might be blinded by my privilege, because I'm from the so-called "general category". However, I don't think castes have a system of hierarchy in the northeast. What I mean to say is: yes, there are a lot of different castes, but none of them are considered as "high" or "low".

The government chooses to give reservation to some based on their place of origin, but the discrimination ends there. This is my belief and I might be wrong about it too.
