It's definitely the hardest fantasy series I ever read. I wouldn't recommend going into it blind. Take a pen and paper and make notes so you don't forget who's who. Also, there's a Tor readalong that was of immense help when I read it- https://www.tor.com/series/malazan-reread-of-the-fallen/
