Do something worthwhile/fulfilling each day, only care about the opinions of the ones you love (or yourself), see the best in people, be grateful for all that you have - some amazing points in this story.

PS: I love eavesdropping. I am constantly on the lookout for character traits and those little idiosyncrasies people work so hard to hide. As an author, this serves as character research. Also, it gives great insights into how the other person is like and effectively helps me build meaningful connections. :)
